2001 could have very well been coined the year of the denim duo, while remembering Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s AMA’s red carpet look. Fast forward to 2010 and you’ll have arrived at the year of Lady Gaga’s meat dress. Or, take a glance back a little less than thirty years ago and you’ll find yourself in the year of Madonna’s cone bra, circa 1990. Every year has its fashion hits and its fashion misses; however, it’s the iconic moments like these ones that we remember forever. With so many unforgettable style snapshots, it becomes difficult to pick just one to represent the entire year. To commemorate the year in fashion, we have rounded up ten (of the many) most iconic fashion moments of 2017, and here they are.

Beyonce’s Pregnancy Reveal — February 1, 2017

Setting the bar high from the start, Queen Bey took to Instagram in February to announce that she and Jay Z were expecting twins. Of course, this was no ordinary pregnancy reveal. Dawning nothing but lingerie and a mint green veil, the Lemonade artist broke the Internet in this barely-there outfit, gaining the most Instagram likes of 2017.

Missoni’s Pussyhat Protest — February 25, 2017

What began in 2016 at Dior’s Spring 2017 show, with graphic t-shirts reading “WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS”, carried over into this past year. Many designers decided to utilize their widespread reach in order to create a narrative about various political issues and Missoni was one of them. During Milan’s Fall Fashion Week, Missoni used their show to shine a light on the Women’s March. Models lined the runway wearing pink “pussyhats” to honour and support the women across the globe who were protesting for equality. The collection was even titled “Pink is the new Black”.

Rhianna at the Met Gala — May 1, 2017

The first Monday in May never fails to bring forward some of the year’s most fabulous and otherworldly ensembles. Thanks to Anna Wintour and her annual Met Gala, 2017 proved to be no different. With the theme of Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, there was surely no such thing as “too much” — the more outrageous the better! Though it is always difficult to pick just one favourite look, Rihanna’s undoubtedly ranked among the top three. Stepping on to the red carpet in Fall 2016 Comme de Garçon runway, the ANTI singer made the statement of the night.

Kendall Jenner in Cannes — May 20, 2017

The winds of the south of France did not hinder model Kendal Jenner’s style; instead, they only made it better. While walking the red carpet for the premiere of 120 Beats per Minute, Jenner stunned the crowed in a Giambattista Valli gown paired with, what Vogue headlined, “socks and sandals” and Chopard jewels. Recently dubbed the Fashion Icon of the Decade by The Daily Front Row, Jenner can do no wrong.

Pippa Middleton’s Bridal Moment — May 20, 2017

A year is not quite complete without the excitement of a royal wedding. Thankfully, Pippa Middleton and James Matthews brought us one of the most beautiful weddings of the year. Pippa dazzled her guests in a stunning bespoke Giles Deacon gown, which she assisted in designing. Lacy and delicate, Middleton’s hand pieced gown was simply perfection.

Celine Dion in Couture — July 2017

This past year, Celine Dion turned into a high-fashion diva and we cannot get enough. As the star of Vogue’s Couture Week video, Dion was repeatedly spotted strutting through the streets of Paris in anything from Chanel and Valentino to Rodarte and Giambattista Valli. Amazingly pulling off each and every one of these runway looks, this Canadian songstress’ love affair with couture is the definition of iconic.

Gigi and Zayne on Vogue — August, 2017

Power couple Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik graced the August cover of Vogue with nothing less than perfection this past year. Based around the idea of breaking the gender rules of fashion and shot by Vinoodh and Inez, Hadid and Malik were pictured sporting what could have very well been each other’s clothing throughout the cover story. Though it did attract some backlash, Hadid and Malik were still stylishly able to display the overall effect of gender fluidity on the fashion world of 2017.

Kaia Gerber’s Runway Debut — September 7, 2017

As if the fashion world wasn’t lucky enough to have been given one Crawford, 2017 has become the year that graciously granted us with another —  none other than Cindy Crawford’s daughter. Fresh faced model Kaia Gerber has been following in her mother’s footsteps for a while now; however, it wasn’t until Calvin Klein’s Spring 2018 show in September that Gerber made her runway debut. Seeing a Crawford look-a-like walk the Calvin Klein runway brings us right back to the 90’s!

The Versace Reunion — September 22, 2017

The guests of Milan Fashion Week were transported back in time at the Versace Spring 2018 fashion show and it could not have been better. Donatella brought the Supermodels of the 90’s back together for what will forever be known as one of the most epic reunions in fashion history! Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer and Helena Christensen took to the runway once again in true Supermodel fashion, while lip-syncing “Freedom! ’90”. From all of the 90’s nostalgics who long for the pre-Stranger Things Wynona Ryder and the Steve Madden platform — thank you Versace.

Meghan Markel & Prince Harry’s Engagement Announcement — November 27, 2017

Looking as happy as ever, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle excitedly announced that we now have another royal wedding to look forward to! During their engagement announcement, Markle looked fit for a princess bride. Dawning an elegant white wrap coat by the Canadian brand Line, an engagement ring made from Lady Di’s jewels, and a smile, Markle was truly a classic beauty. As a supporter of many Canadian brands such as Aritzia and Mackage, it seems that Markle will always have a special place in her heart for the city that she once called home — Toronto.
