The countdown is on and we are beyond excited that Milli: A Celebration of Style is finally opening at the Art Gallery of Hamilton in less than two weeks!
To many this exhibition comes as no surprise as Milli has been a leading lady in countless women’s lives since opening her store in Hamilton in 1964.
For years our dedicated and loyal clients have shared their stories with us – now affectionately known as “Milli Moments”. Many also allowed us to peek into their closets to discover the special pieces they had held on to that accompanied these stories. It quickly became very obvious that Milli’s unique flare, attention to detail and style has stood the test of time. As such, the Milli Archive was created to establish a home for these memories and ensembles spanning over five decades. Milli: A Celebration of Style celebrates these pieces, the women who wore them, and Milli’s role in bringing them together with her signature flare.
This groundbreaking exhibition opens on April 13th. Curated by Nolan Bryant, style writer, society columnist, and collector and independent curator of 20th century and contemporary fashion – the exhibition showcases 48 ensembles from the Milli Archive as well as artifacts, photos and a few surprises. Also, 25 works of art from the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s permanent collection will help to create the dialogue between art and fashion.
We thank everyone who has donated, loaned, and shared their moments with us. If you have Milli moments you would like to share or if you have outfits you would like to donate we are continuing to grown our Archive and welcome your contributions. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
