FALL 2019 TREND REPORT
It’s unbelievable to think that summer is almost over! Due to all the heatwaves we’ve been experiencing we thought it was a good idea to send out our fall 2019 trend report to cool you down. Pam Cook, our resident Fashion Director and Expert has highlighted these movements in fall fashion as the ones to help shape your fall style.
Tailored, oversized, belted, unbelted suits dominated the runways at both the New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. Not your typical suiting, the coming season has styled this look in the chicest way possible. You can either keep your oversized suit together for a classic look or break up the combination by pairing your blazer with a flowy skirt or a white T-shirt with oversized trousers. It’s the suit that will take you places … literally, from the office to a night out with girls! Dries Van Noten and Joseph both have this trend locked down. The highlights are the burgundy suit with floral appliqué from Dries Van Noten and the blazer that goes with everything from Joseph.
THE QUEEN'S TWEED
A classic tweed topper, cape, coat and skirt is very posh. This year, designers have updated this classic British style with a modern twist. The look was showcased by unexpected pairings like leather skirts, feminine dresses and sporty cropped pants.
Pam advises Milli fashionistas to look at Odeeh when shopping for tweed. Their combination of casual, elegant, formal style draws between traditional and unique tailoring. It’s a perfect fit for the contemporary British aesthetic. Their fall collection encompasses skirts, modern double-faced jackets and beautiful colour combinations: cobalt blue paired with mustard yellow. One of her favourite collections hitting Milli stores that does 70s style in a modern way.
Dorothee Schumacher also embraces this trend. Her oversized velvet pants paired with her tweed topper is the ultimate city look.
What if we told you that florals weren’t meant only to be worn in spring and summer? This fall Red by Valentino showcases florals in a dark, sultry and alluring way. The designers use of deep reds, florals and tweeds is breathtaking. Pam recommends the floral midi dress to be worn with kitten heels for a night out or with combat boots for the weekend.
No one does florals better than Zimmerman. Their fall collection exudes the dark romance style, from chiffon blouses to dresses the collection will have you looking sophisticated and elegant.
It’s time to start marching to the beat of your own drum. You’ll be seeing military fashion having a major moment from outerwear to footwear, you won’t be able to escape the invasion. Designers Dorothee Schumacher and Harvey Faircloth will be your best sources for this look. Both offer the utilitarian look with their army green military jackets and cargo pants.
SHOW YOUR SKIN
Lions, tigers and snakes oh my! Whether you’re a cheetah or a faux-fur girl it’s time to show your spots this season. Designers Smythe and Sly 010 will have you looking like the Queen of the jungle with their fabulous skirts and jackets. Sly 010 pleated snake skin skirt in pink and black is an unique and stylish combination and a must-have piece in your wardrobe. For the ultimate statement Pam suggests keeping an eye out for Smythe blazers, toppers and faux-fur coats as they are the quintessential items to wear from work to weekend.
This year lace gets an update with edgy silhouettes. Paule Ka offers a modern sophisticated twist to this trend. The lace blouses and lace trimmed skirts – worn together or separately – are the ideal transitional items for the season. The beautiful lace dresses with exposed back zippers by N’21 gives traditional lace a revamp.
SPRING 2019 TREND REPORT
Spring is almost upon us and that means the Milli Spring 2019 Trend Report is here! We’ve asked our Fashion Director, Pam Cook, to point us in the right direction for the upcoming season. According to the fashionista herself, the runways were filled with neutrals, bright colours, long blazers, black, prints, and washed denim. Read all about the hottest runway looks below…we guarantee you’ll be walking the runway, we mean, the streets looking chic and fabulous this season!
DOWN TO EARTH
From sand to tan and cream to khaki, neutrals dominated the catwalk. Despite that this light pallette can seem “boring” to some, neutrals can actually provide a sleek and complete look. The shade allows you to experiment with your wardrobe by mixing different tones and fabrications together such as silk, leather, or even linen. Neutrals can be the anchor of your outfits – try bouncing bright colours or pastels off the colour so it’s not tonal from head to toe.
Fabiana Filippi and Peserico both do neutral better than neutral does neutral. The Italian designers incorporate delicious cotton and cashmere into their spring lineups, making their collection the perfect pieces for this trend.
Hello yellow! From different shades of neutrals to different shades of yellows like marigold and butter this spring is going to be sunnier than ever… guaranteed! New York fashion insiders noted that yellow is the 2019 colour to beat; not only gracing the runways but also seen on the streets outside the notable skyscrapers. Adding yellow to your looks, whether it be a dress or a handbag will have you turning heads at any event. Designers that will have you all mellowed and yellowed out? Dries Van Noten, Rochas and Paule Ka!
THE LONG AND LONGER
Fashion over comfort is so last season! Relaxed suits and loose blouses are here to stay and are absolutely dominating the streets of New York and Paris. A messy undone shirt and pant combo is very chic, cool and encompasses a “girl boss” aesthetic. We’ve seen time and time again that past fashion trends have been revived on the runways and some may say that this look screams the 90s! However, this is the jacked up 90s style trend that offers a more polished look. The extended proportions and long jackets provide depth and variation to your outfits. Mastering this style are the designers Maire Saint Pierre and Sly 010. Maire Saint Pierre’s loose black culottes paired with a long vest or a Sly 010 long pastel blouse with silk trousers are the perfect additions to your wardrobe this season.
NOT SO BASIC BLACK
When you think of spring colours black doesn’t necessarily come to mind. When we wear black we usually pair our looks with a pop of colour but the fashion gods are urging us to go head-to-toe black. Despite being monochromatic, the all-black looks are hardly boring! Victoria Beckham, Akris and Rochas all play with the colour by using different fabrications and textures.
A python boot paired with a leopard print slip dress, zebra mules paired with a graphic tee, or a floral skirt with a stripe top… sounds a bit crazy but crazy is where its at and we’re loving this trend! Make sure not to shy away from bold pattern this season by mixing and matching different prints and graphics. Erdem, No21, Antonio Marras and MPD Box are your go to designers when it comes to getting wild. Anything goes with this one. Think: logos, digital graphics, kaleidoscopic, and kitschy.
Denim is a staple in our closets. Whether it’s winter, spring, summer or fall it’s the only article of clothing that we can never let go of. This season the runways have seen a huge come back of the 80s acid wash jean and tie-dye trend. Have fun this season with upgrading the classic denim to different washes. New to Milli is Maurizio Massimino. This Italian designer plays with denim in various ways, whether it’s colour or mixing fabric together such as brocade, his pieces are fabulous and always make a statement!
FALL 2018 TREND REPORTThe leaves are on the cusp of changing and the wind begins to blow as fall rolls in. Luckily, Milli has got all the trends you need to make your fall wardrobe a total hit! Take a look at the fashions we are seeing heat up runways for the coming season!

SPRING 2018 TREND REPORTThe snow has begun to melt and so too have our winter blues! With the warmer weather comes many more fashion choices. Thankfully, Milli has narrowed down these options. Here are the top five trends of the spring 2018 season!
INTO THE MIX
As the snow finally melts, fashion seems to become more fun. Since we no longer have to worry about bundling up, it’s almost as if a whole new world of wardrobe choices appears. However, more often than not, we tend to draw a line in terms of just how much fun we can have with our spring attire. This season, make sure to draw that line a little further than usual! As we have seen on the SS18 runways, one pattern just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore. Make sure not to shy away from bold pattern parties this season. From Carven’s brightly coloured blouses to Marni’s multi-stripped collection, there is surely no shortage of print mixtures this spring. Come to Milli and let us help you “remix” your closet!
NEED FOR TWEED
This spring season, go bold or go home! The SS18 runways were no strangers to pops of colour and this spring the streets will prove to be no different. Break into this trend slowly with a few accessories. Available in beautiful hues of yellow, pink and blue, an Isla Fontaine purse is the perfect way to bring life to even the most basic ensemble. Even something as simple as a scarf can make an outfit new and exciting. Franco Ferrari’s brightly coloured scarves help to accessorize and follow this bold trend. However, if you are feeling daring and wish to take on this trend full force, Autumn Cashmere is the brand for you! With sweaters varying in only the brightest of shades, these pieces are a staple that every woman should have in her closet.
PETAL TO THE METAL
FALL 2017 TREND REPORT 2.0The only thing that is making summer coming to an end even the slightest bit bearable is the idea of new fall clothes. See which trends Milli has deemed worthy of some closet space this upcoming season!
As Coco Chanel once said, “A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls”. But as recent times have proven, pearls are not just for necklaces anymore. This upcoming season, it is all about wearing pearls anywhere but around your around neck. From handbags to heels, these little white gems have been making their statements all over the runways. As Sebastian has proven with their pearl encrusted heels, and Mother of Pearl has shown in their Fall 2017 collection, pearls have the power to add class to just about anything. Of course, the pearl necklace will always be a staple item for every chic woman; but for the time being, don’t shy away from trying something new and exciting. With infinite possibilities, pearls allow the world to be your oyster. Come into Milli and see for yourself!
Don’t let velvet fool you; it may taste delicious in a ruby coloured cupcake, but it looks even better in a closet. With summer quickly coming to an end, trade in that airy chiffon for something a little warmer, but just as pretty! Whether it be with a dress, a purse, or some fabulous booties, let velvet be the staple fabric that holds your wardrobe together this coming season. Of course, there are countless options to choose from besides red velvet in the fashion world, which makes this trend even more fun to follow. If you are wishing to make a statement come September, Milli has the perfect pair of velvet sneakers for you, from An Hour And A Shower! As Luisa Cerano, Lanvin, and Antonio Marras have all presented to us through their most recent collections, this luxurious fabric provides us with pieces that make transitioning into the fall that much easier. It seems that both on our plates and on our hangers, velvet can do no wrong.
FOR THE FRILL OF IT
FALL 2017 TREND REPORTWith fall just around the corner, our store has begun to change colours just as the leaves soon will. Get ready to face the cooler weather in style with the help of these Fall 2017 trends!
Florals for fall? – Now that’s ground-breaking! There is no need to shove your prints to the back of the closet this upcoming season because these bold patterns can confidently be worn all year round. As No. 21, Preen, Erdem, and Alberta Ferretti repeatedly proved on their fall 2017 runways: brightly coloured roses, geometric shapes, and pastel paisleys are no longer exclusive to the warmer months. Whether your style consists of mixing and matching boldly patterned tops and trousers, or making a statement with one single yet exciting piece, we have it all. This season, get ready to fall in love with prints all over again and don’t be afraid to mix them up!
BLUE JEAN BABY
POP OF COLOUR
With fall just around the corner, be sure not to shy away from colour. Just because the leaves begin to turn brown does not mean your wardrobe has to! “Millennial Pink” has made quite the name for itself during the past couple of seasons, and it is with no surprise that this pretty pastel is here to stay. Along with pink, fall 2017 can also be expected to be painted with shades of turquoise, red, and orange thanks to the likes of Marni, No. 21, and Sportmax, to name a few. If you wish to be louder than the leaves or would prefer to dawn a more muted palette this fall, Milli has pieces that are sure to brighten up any woman’s closet.
Fall can certainly become boring fast if all your daily wardrobe consists of are pants. Dare to be different this upcoming season by mixing in a few fun and exciting skirts. Of course, the pencil skirt is always a key piece in every woman’s closet; however, this year we suggest that you experiment a little and let your skirt do most of the talking. Novelty skirts have the ability to take any outfit from drab to fab, no matter what they are paired with. The fall 2017 runways have brought us many different styles. Whether you wish to dress in MSGM’s ruffled and knife pleated silhouettes or Lanvin’s out of this world metallics, there is no doubt that any one of these novelty skirts will spice up your outfits this fall season.
SPRING 2017 TREND REPORTSpring 2017 has already hit the runways and our store. Mother Nature’s sure to follow suit when she sees the trends for herself.
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: this print captures springtime whimsy at its finest. Delicate and bold florals by designers like Marni, Harvey Faircloth, and Seventy will brighten any day, rain or shine.
Bring out your 70s rocker inclinations (but leave behind the eyeliner) this season by adding a touch of metallic to your everyday wardrobe. Need help conjuring up the past? We’ll show you how to seamlessly incorporate pieces by Tomorrowland, Marie Saint Pierre, and Brunello Cucinelli.
THE BRIGHT AND THE BEAUTIFUL
Thought you couldn’t wear bright colours? Think again. There’s a hue for everyone. Lemony yellows, sealike ceruleans, and rich fuchsias by Moschino Boutique and Etro will bring a pigmented punch to any wardrobe.
The most luxurious print is making yet another comeback this season, but in lighter forms by the likes of Norma Kamali.
Every classic sophisticate needs a modern blouse. These days designers are reinventing the corporate button-down and bringing new styles to soaring heights. Pair your Luisa Cerano, Tara Jarmon, or Self Portrait blouse with cropped pants for a chic office look.
Thanks to pieces by MSGM, No.21 and Marni; patterns like gingham, plaid, polka dots and more can happily coexist in one outfit! We’ll give you tips on how to mix and match for individualistic charm.
AN EMBELLISHMENT LOVE AFFAIR
Our philosophy when it comes to unexpected embellishments: more is more. Embellishments make simple pieces special and worth a little investment. We take our cues from the Cambio pants, Needle & Thread dresses, and rhinestone ZCD sneakers we have in-store.
Stripes can be worn year round, but get full fashion visibility in warmer months. Designs by Luisa Cerano will help you take the straight and narrow.
A delicate fabric for a delicate season, brought to us by the likes of Monique Lhuillier, No 21, Tara Jarmon, and Self Portrait. Visit us at the store to find your perfect match on the demure to sheer scale.

SPRING 2016 TREND REPORTOur favourite trends to liven up your wardrobe.
EARN YOUR STRIPES
Stripes are to spring what fur is to winter! Shed your shearlings and show off every type of stripe–vertical, horizontal, thin, wide, colourful, black and white. We have wearable stripes by Tomorrowland, Marc Cain and more that will make you feel more stylish than any sailor.
WHO WEARS THE PANTS?
This spring is all about pants that are anything but ordinary–wide leg, pyjama, pleat, cropped, in print or solid are all perfect styles for work or play. Skinny & boyfriend jeans have been jazzed up with playful embellishments for the weekend. Whatever your choice, it is all about the pant!
BEDROOM TO BOARDROOM
We’ve noticed that some of our favourite designers have pulled inspiration from lingerie and loungewear for spring. We love the idea of silk and lace camisoles layered under sweaters or cardigans. Slip dresses are now haute couture (ask McQueen, Dior, or Celine). And pull-on-pants are being tailored expertly–a smart look for the office and comfortable to boot.
MADE YOU BLUSH
Go nude! That’s right. We’ve seen monochromatic looks in nude colours everywhere, and we think they’re perfect for spring. Fashion critics say that colours in the versatile nude family–”hazy taupe”, “oyster pink”, “rose quartz”, etc.– are the new neutrals for women. We can help you find the right nude for you that will flatter your skin tone and add freshness to your wardrobe.
Each spring, we look to fashion icons like Iris Apfel for printspiration. The 90 yr old New Yorker effortlessly mixes patterns, textures, and hues, reminding us that fashion should be fun. Gucci’s most recent “geek chic” solidified the fact that mixing prints is in. We’ve brightened up the store with playful prints by Dorothee Schumacher, Strenesse, Malene Birger and more.

Ultra-mod has returned this season, and designers have reimagined it with a more relaxed, modern twist. You’ll be likely to see softer versions of the A-line dress, layered with a collared blouse or embellished with a textured neckline.
